Mia Wasikowska

Alice in Wonderland's biggest star is the beauty icon Mia Wasikowska. Mia was born October 1989 in Canberra, Australia. With a Polish mother who was a photographer & an Australian father who was an artist, her artistic roots were held firm. Mia grew up studying ballet but eventually turned her interest to acting at age 15. Mia appeared in several Australian productions including the popular Australian soap opera "All Saints." Her co-star role in the Aussie movie "Suburban Mayhem" won her an Australian Young Actor nomination and started her fame rolling. Her international breakthrough came with her role as suicidal teen Sophie in the HBO television series “In Treatment” (2008). She later played the role of Chaya Dziencielsky in the 2008 movie “Defiance” starring Daniel Craig. We most recently saw Mia as Elinor Smith in “Amelia”, a biographical movie based on the life of Amelia Earhart starring Hilary Swank, Richard Gere and Ewan McGregor.

We at Beauty of a Site are super excited for her lead role as Alice in “Alice in Wonderland.”  Mia has said she feels lucky even to be in the movie since she almost didn't audition! She said that sending in her video audition tape for "Alice" in 2008 was a "why not?" gesture, figuring it wouldn't hurt to try for the part. Four auditions later, Tim Burton was sold by the gravity of her performance, and liked the idea that she was a newcomer to the industry. Mia seems to be taking her new found fame in stride & hopes to continue to do great work, while keeping her normal, down to earth attitude.
